Sesame balls are a kind of famous snack in China. And they are often considered as a dessert, breakfast or as a gift for the Chinese New Year.
What are sesame balls?
Sesame balls (Chinese: 芝麻球; pinyin: zhīmáqíu) is a kind of fried Chinese dessert made from glutinous rice flour and sesame seeds. It also called Jian Dui (Chinese: 煎堆; pinyin: jiānduī; Cantonese Yale: jīndēui; literally: ‘fried pile’).
This dessert is covered with sesame seeds and is tasty crispy, chewy and sweet. Inside of the Jian Dui is empty and always loaded up with some delicious filling.
What is the filling in sesame balls
In Chinese sesame balls, many fillings are often used. Such as lotus paste, sweet black bean paste, purple potato, pumpkin or red bean glue.
How to reheat sesame balls
They can be reheated in a 300-degree oven, but just like many foods, they have the best taste when fresh.
Sesame Balls Recipe:
You’ll need:
250g glutinous rice flour
60 g white sugar
240g pumpkin puree
White sesame
Oil
How to make sesame balls
1. Peel the pumpkin and slice it and steam it in a steamer.
2. Stir the pumpkin and sugar into a blender and mix into a puree.
3. Add glutinous rice flour and knead the dough until smooth.
4. Knead the dough into strips. Divide the dough into 12 to 14 grams small doughs evenly.
5. Slightly dipped some water on one hand and smashed the dough into balls with both hands.
6. Put the sesame seeds in a fresh-keeping bag, put the dough balls and shake them to make a layer of sesame on the surface.
7. Heat a wok with oil until 150 °C/302°F. Fry the pumpkin ball until float on the oil surface. ( According to the situation, use a small heat, medium heat to switch fried pumpkin balls)
8. Use a spoon to squeeze the sesame balls into the oil and continue to fry for 7-8 minutes. Then, continue to fry them under middle heat for 40 seconds until the shell is slightly hard. Transfer and spread them on a plate. Serve.

Made this tonight, came out very good! More sweet than expected, however still very good. Next time I make it I will add some heat to it.
